Weekly Snap: LConf, OSDC program and Sensatronic announcements

May 10 – 14 introduced LConf, the final program of the Open Source Data Center Conference and announced Sensatronic price and product changes.
From the consulting team, Tobias kicked off his Nagios Config Interface series with LConf – for LDAP based Nagios/Icinga configuration. With low installation requirements, all that is needed is an OpenLDAP server and Perl with LDAP modules. Once up and going, LConf runs on any LDAP browser and the user can easily construct the tree structure of folders how they like it. Be it by location, monitoring instances, departments or application groups, LConf offers better user orientation without affecting the generated end configuration. Furthermore, the configuration can be dragged and dropped from different folders, in conjunction with LDAP Admin for example. Covering all fathomable hosts, services, customvars, dependencies and templates, the only downside with LConf is in its escalation capabilities. Not to worry however, as development is well underway with a web interface for platform independent LConf configuration in the pipes. Check it out at www.netways.org
Hardware man Martin forwarded news of price hikes from Sensatronics of up to 25%. Lucky for our shop customers, we have been able to delay this till 31 May 2010 in cooperation with our importer – so get in quick! Senturion Lite and E16 ranges as well as door sensors for EM1 will be discontinued with heavy duty temperature sensors replacing the standard range for E4 and EM1. Finally, 15m and longer sensors will require a 3 week delivery period. For those who need long cabling and connections in shorter time frames however, Martin recommended AKCP products.
Finally, Manuela announced the final program of the OSDC (Open Source Data Center) Conference coming up on the 23 – 24 June. Starting with keynote Baron Schwartz on “Optimizing MySQL and InnoDB Performance”, the range of presentations and workshops will equip every IT professional with the latest open source technology and best practice tips. To top it off, the social evening BBQ and drinks will provide the perfect atmosphere for casual networking and exchange. We hope to see you there!
